Managed AI Cloud users: Changes when signing in

We’re making some changes to the DataRobot login experience for Managed AI Cloud environments (i.e., app.datarobot.com and app.eu.datarobot.com) that will enable a single sign-on experience across the DataRobot application, DataRobot Community, and DataRobot University. This post describes what you—a Managed AI Cloud user—should expect as a result of these changes and what you may need to do before and after the changes are complete.

From Jan 20, 2022 through March 4, 2022, your account may be migrated to this new login experience (see FAQs below for details). During this period the DataRobot application login page will prompt for your username and then route you to the appropriate login experience, based on your migration status.

You will be able to use your existing DataRobot application credentials in the new login experience. However, if there is any change to the credentials you need to use for signing in, we will send you additional details via email before migrating your account.

Additional FAQs about the new login experience

As a DataRobot Managed AI Cloud customer/user, what benefits can I expect from the new login experience?

If you log in to app.datarobot.com or app.eu.datarobot.com using either username + password or using a Google account, the new login experience will require you to log in just once to access the DataRobot application, DataRobot Community, and DataRobot University. That single set of credentials will provide you with access to all those applications. This means you will not have to maintain and remember separate credentials for these applications and can easily switch between these applications without the login process interrupting your workflow.

As a DataRobot Managed AI Cloud customer/user that logs in to the DataRobot application via my organization-specific identity provider, what benefits can I expect from the new login experience?

If you currently sign in to the DataRobot application via your organization-specific identity provider service (e.g., Okta, Azure AD, etc.) and use an organization-specific sign-on URL provided by your DataRobot organization admin, you will not be migrated to the new login experience and will continue using your existing login workflow.

Notes:

  • We plan to extend the benefits of the new login experience to your use case as part of future enhancements, and will communicate this separately.
  • If you are unsure about your login configuration, then please contact your DataRobot organization administrator.

As a user, I already have existing logins on DataRobot Managed AI Cloud, DataRobot University, and Community. How does this change affect my existing login experience?

If you currently have a login to DataRobot University or DataRobot Community that uses the same email as your DataRobot application login:

  • Your login experience for DataRobot University and DataRobot Community will NOT change.
  • Your DataRobot application login WILL change.
    • You will need to use the same credential option (i.e., password or sign in using Google) that you currently use for logging in to DataRobot University/Community to access the DataRobot application. If you do not remember the password you can attempt to reset it from the sign in page itself. If you are unable to reset your password, please contact support@datarobot.com.
    • We will send you additional details via email BEFORE migrating your account to the new login experience.

If you currently have a profile for DataRobot University or DataRobot Community that uses a different email from your DataRobot application account:

  • Your DataRobot application credentials will NOT change. You will be able to use your existing DataRobot application credentials for the new login experience.
  • Additionally, you will now also be able to log in to DataRobot University and Community using these credentials. However, this will be a completely new profile in both DataRobot University and Community.
    • Contact support@datarobot.com if you want to link your existing DataRobot Community or DataRobot University profile with the new login experience. This will enable activity from your existing profile to be available in your new profile after account migration.
    • Note that any existing DataRobot University and Community profiles and related data will remain unchanged and you can continue using them. To do so you will need to sign in separately to DataRobot University/Community using your existing credentials for those profiles.

Please read through the following scenarios to help understand the process and your options.

  • When I browse to DataRobot Community after my account was migrated, I'm automatically signed in and am prompted to create a new Community username for my profile. I already have a Community username. Why did this happen  and what should I do?
The DataRobot Account single-sign-on experience signed you into the Community automatically. The email for your DataRobot Account profile is the same one associated with your DataRobot application which was not previously registered with the DataRobot Community.
At this point you have two options:
    1. Create a new Community username which will link to the new DataRobot Account profile. (This will be a second Community account, and the older profile and its data will also continue to be available in the Community.)
    2. Sign out of the Community and sign in again using your previous Community profile credentials, from before account migration. (The new profile will continue to be available if you wish to use that in the future.)
Additionally you can contact support@datarobot.com if you want to link your existing profile with the new single-sign-on account (to migrate historical Community data, badges, etc. to your new account).
  • When I browse to DataRobot University after my account was migrated, I do not see my DataRobot University training history or certifications. Why did this happen and what should I do?
The DataRobot Account single-sign-on experience signed you into DataRobot University automatically. The email for your DataRobot Account profile is the same one associated with your DataRobot application which was not previously registered with DataRobot University.
At this point you have two options:
    1. Continue using the new profile which will link to the new DataRobot Account profile. (This will be a second DataRobot University account, and the older profile and its data will also continue to be available in the DataRobot University.)
    2. Sign out of the new DataRobot University profile and sign in again using your previous profile credentials, from before account migration. The new profile will continue to be available if you wish to use that in the future.
Additionally you can contact support@datarobot.com if you want to link your existing profile with the new single-sign-on account (to migrate training history and certifications to your new account).

What about Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)? Will that still work?

Yes. If you had configured MFA in the DataRobot application (such as requiring a pin code from your phone), it will be migrated to the new login experience and the same authenticator app can be used. If you did not have MFA configured yet, the option to configure it will continue to be available as before.

As a DataRobot VPC/On-Premise customer, what benefits can I expect from the new login experience?

The new login experience is limited to DataRobot Managed AI Cloud customers only. There is no change in behavior for VPC/On-Premise customers.

Hi @Bruce - Really appreciate the feedback and completely understand your concern. Our goal is for the enhancement to cause minimal to no disruption for existing customers.

I’d be happy to connect with you directly to learn more about your specific login setup so that we can evaluate if/how that would be impacted by the upcoming enhancements. As needed, we can identify any improvements we could make before we roll it out to you and other users with a similar setup.

Just for the record - I don't come to work to have a Data Robot login experience. I come to work to get the job done. The best experience for me is that the login process does not change - so that I can set and forget. Even if the new login is in some sense better - it is doubtful that it is better enough (sic) to compensate for having to worry about something I thought I had closed the lid on.
